Director's Message

With this description of remarkable giving, Nature Camps, Inc. celebrates and honors the generosity, loyalty, and commitment of our community during these past many summers.

Our unwavering commitment to transformative outdoor and adventure education continues to be strengthened through the remarkable giving of our children, parents, colleagues, and counselors – efforts that have also helped make us the vibrant facility of environmental education we are today.

There has always been a single desire by all who are present at Nature Camps: to create something that endures.

Extraordinary parents, dedicated counselors, the supportive Henneman family, amazing friends and colleagues, and remarkable children give and give of themselves, and by so doing have transformed lives, including their own.

Adventure Challenge Upper and Lower Ropes Courses

Some Upper Ropes Course elements and most all of the Lower Ropes Course elements have been upgraded in compliance with upgraded Ropes Course standards.

During the seven days and five nights of pre-camp training counselors located the needed locust tree in the upper field's woods, took old fashioned two person saws, cut it down, used hand draw knives to remove the bark (to prevent rotting), and carried two fourteen foot long logs down to the Lower Ropes Course (see photos). They were needed for new bi-post constuction of the new zip line and series of swings by swing specialist, John Fox. They assisted in pulling and lifting the new poles in place.

Later, counselors built a new spotting bridge next to the notched log over the stream, covering it with chicken to prevent slipping (as has been done on all the bridges leading down to the Ropes Course).

Throughout the summer Counselors and Teen Adventure Explorers assisted John in various aspects of reconstructing Lower Ropes Course elements. Campers often carried wood chips to place under Rope Course elements as they passed by on their hiking adventures or leprechaun house building.

Plans are being considered on ways to have the Ropes Courses used more year round by groups.

Formal at Nature Camps

On the last day of camp, children and counselors celebrated with a "formal" dance, dressing up in various outfits and dancing to their hearts' content.
